Every year the university offers sports scholarships and funding to students who have excelled in sport and aspire to further their achievements and represent the university.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible, a candidate must be either a current student at any level of study or an undergraduate or postgraduate student who has been accepted at the University of Newcastle. Furthermore, they must have achieved representative honors at senior or age group level at national and/or regional levels within the past year, and/or be a member of the National Governing Body (NGB) Performance Teams, or equivalent . In addition, candidates must pledge to develop their skills in their respective sport and represent the University in BUCS events if possible.
Application process
Students selected for the Sports Scholarship are expected to have achieved a regional, national or international level of proficiency within the past 12 months. They must also be part of the national governing body’s performance ensemble or equivalent. Upon acceptance, successful applicants will receive a grant of up to £5,000 to cover tuition fees and expenses.

- Individual and/or small group strength and conditioning sessions,
- Obtaining medical services such as physical therapy and sports massage,
- Professional coaching, mentoring/lifestyle support, and athlete workshops covering topics such as sports physiology, nutrition, psychology, screenings, injury prevention and management, lifestyle management, sports science support,
- Access to training facilities and video performance analysis.
